STELLENBOSCH, 6-8 mei '09 - Marleen Temmerman trekt in mei '09 met het International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH) naar Stellenbosch in Zuid-Afrika voor de organisatie van een internationale conferentie met als titel 'Can We Treat Our Way Out Of The HIV Epidemic?'. Samen met experten op het vlak van hiv-behandeling, epidemiologen en specialisten inzake gezondheidssystemen en gezondheidseconomie, zoekt ze en antwoord op de vraag of we ons al dan niet uit de hiv/aids-epidemie kunnen behandelen. De conferentie wordt georganiseerd door het ICRH (Universiteit Gent) en het South African Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (Stellenbosch University) in samenwerking met de University of the Western Cape, het African Institute for Mathematical Sciences en de VLIR-UOS (Vlaamse Interuniversitaire Raad - universitaire ontwikkelingssamenwerking).
De conferentie focust op de rol van antiretrovirale therapie in het hiv-preventiebeleid in Sub-Sahara Afrika. Het voorlopig programma vindt u hieronder. Inschrijvingen en meer informatie op http://www.hivearlytreatment.org/index.php.
Het organiserend wetenschappelijk comité bestaat uit Marleen Temmerman (ICRH, Ghent University); John Hargrove (SACEMA, Stellenbosch University); Wim Delva (ICRH, Ghent University and SACEMA, Stellenbosch University); Bertran Auvert (University of Versailles) en Brian Williams (SACEMA).
